The Connection Between Hormone Imbalance and Acne

Teens frequently suffer from acne for reasons not exactly known. Even when hormone shots are given to some teenage girls and women for fertility, they are still affected by acne. Of course, teenage boys and even adult men are not exempt from acne either. A hormonal imbalance in the system can be a possible cause for acne, regardless of the person that is suffering from it. The following will dive into the association between acne and hormone imbalance. Specifically, it will discuss methods that are non surgical and can be used to fight against imbalance and acne.

How Are Acne and Hormone Imbalance Related?

A hormonal imbalance occurs when the body has hormone levels that are abnormal. This results from the body secreting either lower or higher levels of hormones than usual. The hormone imbalances that are the most common today are thyroid, estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, and androgen hormone imbalance.

The skin layers of your body have what is known as sebum oil. An excess amount of this oil is likely produced when your body has a hormonal imbalance. This results in oily skin, which of course contributes to the acne problem.

Fighting Hormonal Imbalance Acne

While hormone imbalance is not easy to manage, by consuming a healthy diet, exercising on a regular basis, and relieving stress, one can begin to alleviate hormone imbalance and acne.

Your diet should include an emphasis on fruits and vegetables, while avoiding foods that are spicy or processed. The consumption of junk food contributes to excess amounts of sebum oil being secreted by the body, so it’s important to limit or even eliminate those foods from your diet. Acne, eczema, and hormonal imbalance can result from diets that don’t have foods with the right amount of omega 3 fatty acids.

Hormone imbalance and acne also can occur from stress. To relieve stress, one can do meditation and yoga. Each day, you can also try to focus on activities that you enjoy doing especially when you really feel stressed, such as taking a bubble bath or even taking a visit to the spa. Try not to overload your schedule and set some time out each day to be alone. The hormone imbalance problem can be managed when following some of these guidelines and therefore will reduce skin acne as well.

Exercising proper skin care often is critical in preventing sebum oil from being produced in excess.
